Please come back again.The Red Wing stoneware companies used both terms "success" and "perfection" to label these filtering systems. Minnesota Stoneware Company called theirs the Perfection Filter. Red Wing Stoneware Company called theirs the Success Filter. Red Wing Potteries later also used the Perfection Filter name. Despite the name, the filtering system was all basically the same. One crock to hold well water sat on top of another which would contain the filtered water. The well water in the top crock slowly dripped through a filtered hole into the lower crock. A spigot in the lower crock allowed the water to flow into a mug. The whole system was topped with a lid and sometimes sat on a base.
The stoneware companies of Red Wing, Minnesota produced stoneware items shortly after their inception in 1877 until the mid-1940's. The shapes of these items ranged widely. However, one overriding attribute describes them all: they were designed to be used. In fulfilling the needs of a developing America, the stoneware companies were hugely successful and their wares were very popular. The popularity of their wares has only increased over time making collecting Red Wing a growing field and exciting hobby!
