RWCS Commemorative 1996, Gray Line Cookie Jar and Cover
This commemorative was issued at the Red Wing Collectors Society annual convention in 1996. It is a miniature cookie jar with matching cover, both in the Gray Line pattern. The Red Wing Union Stoneware and Red Wing Potteries companies produced the original Gray Line pattern kitchenware in the 1920's and 1930's. The front of the commemorative is decorated with a decal in blue lettering which states: Cookies. The inside bottom of the commemorative is also decorated with a decal in blue lettering. This one states: Red Wing Collectors Society Both the commemorative cookie and cover are also decorated with decals representing the Gray Line pattern sponged band and with bottom mold marks with read RWCS and 1996. The 1996 commemorative was produced by the Western Stoneware Company. Only about 7000 were ever made. An extra sometimes included with the commemorative is a folded card which is printed with more information about the Gray Line pattern of kitchenware. The Red Wing Collectors Society has issued a commemorative, a miniature facsimile of an actual Red Wing company's product, at their annual convention since 1977. These products were not manufactured by Red Wing, but have become highly collectible in their own right. The organization for and by collectors of Red Wing is the Red Wing Collectors Society. The society consigns the production of various collectible items that commemorate the Red Wing stoneware companies, the society itself and their annual convention. Collecting Red Wing stoneware, dinnerware and art pottery can be a rewarding and exciting hobby. These Red Wing collectibles will enhance your collection!
