Three and Four Gallon Churn Lid in Zinc Glaze
This is a lid for either a three or four gallon churn. It has the "whiteware," or zinc oxide, glaze which dates it to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. On the top of this churn lid is the molded size mark which reads 3 & 4, stating that it will fit either a three or four gallon churn. The hole in the middle of the lid allows the dasher handle to pass through. This churn lid is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Unlike crock lids, churn lids were designed to fit on a flange inside the churn. Churn lids will always have a hold in the middle of them for the dasher to pass through.
